NOVAC will hold it’s monthly general membership meeting Sunday, September 10, at 7:00 PM as per usual in Room #163 in Research Hall on the campus of George Mason University. Join the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club for Astronomy Day at C.M. Crockett Park on April 29, 2017. Astronomy Day is a national event usually held in or around April to promote and share amateur astronomy. Come out at 3PM to observe the Sun! Strong, gusty winds will make conditions unsuitable for astronomy with portable equipment this evening according to the weather forecasts. We don’t want to disappoint the public with shaky views where they will see little if anything of interest. Perseid Meteor Shower
While NOVAC isn’t hosting a public night for this meteor shower there are a number of resources out there on the shower and ways to observe and if you are truly interested in doing things like staying out overnight past normal park hours or want a place to watch that only an astronomy club has access to then maybe becoming a member of NOVAC would interest you. One of the benefits of our membership is access to a number of places that would be dark enough to see meteors as long as the weather cooperates. Read more […]
