    Join NOVAC for Astronomy Day at Sky Meadows State Park on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Astronomy Day is a national event usually held in or around April to promote and share amateur astronomy.     Due to the anticipated snow, sleet and such for tomorrow night, as well as icy conditions that will be prevailing during the evening hours, we’re cancelling the Public Night for Crockett tomorrow evening.   • Great Meadow Public Night Cancelled

    Observers – The weather reports indicate wind-chill temperatures for Saturday night in the 10 to 20 degrees BELOW ZERO (that’s -10 to -20 degrees temperature) from winds that may gust as high as 50 mph! I am afraid that in these temperatures frostbite become a real threat, so I am cancelling the public observing night. Try again next month.

    Although the weather looks promising for tomorrow night cloudwise, weather earlier in the day includes sleet, icy rain and snow.  Moreover, freezing temperatures at Crockett will ensue throughout the evening hours.     Join NOVAC for Astronomy Day at Sky Meadows State Park on May 31, 2014. Come out at 3PM to observe the Sun! Stay until nightfall to see some planets and deep sky objects! Entrance to the park ends at 9pm no exceptions!     … For tonight. If the field conditions are too soggy, we can set up in/near the gravel parking lot or on the asphalt parking lot straight ahead from the entrance.

  • Great Meadow Public Night is a go! Location Change!

    The Great Meadow public observing session is a go.  Because the field is too wet to drive on, THE LOCATION FOR TONIGHT’S OBSERVING WILL BE IN THE GRAVEL PARKING LOT NEXT TO THE STADIUM.  When you enter at the main gate, immediately turn right and go 1/10th of a mile and turn left into the parking lot.  I will have signs up on how to get there.  The session is from 6 to 11 pm.   Directions Via I-66 West from DC – The exit from I-66 is exit 31 (The Plains exit; 9 miles past Read more […]
